If you think you may suffer from ADHD and would like an assessment, please contact Dr Tint’s secretary for an appointment.
Assessments, at pre-arranged outpatient appointments, consist of clinical interview with you (and your family if available), Adult ADHD Assessment Questionnaire pack, childhood history, collateral history from family if available, referral information from your GP and a general mental health assessment. Diagnosis is according to DSM IV and ICD 10 criteria for hyperkinetic disorders. Following the assessment, a detailed report will be forwarded to your GP.
Patients are encouraged to bring a friend or family member who can provide valuable childhood and background history. Patients are also encouraged to bring any additional information such as school reports/employment reports, if available.
A GP referral before the assessment is preferable. As per NICE guidelines, a shared care arrangement with your GP is essential.
If you have ADHD and if you need medication, usually 6 to 8 weeks follow ups are needed till medication is working and the dose is stable (usually 2 to 3 follow ups), then follow ups can be spaced out to every 3 to 6 months.
How much does assessment cost?
The cost of a private consultation is £400 for your Inital Assessment and Follow-up appointments are £200 each.
If diagnosis is confirmed and medication is prescribed, you would need to be on a stable dose of medication before the GP can take over your prescriptions. This is recommended in the NICE guidelines. Usually the dose is stabilized in 2-3 follow-up appointments.
